Laura Williams is the Head of the Music Library at Duke University. She holds an M.A. in Musicology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and her research interests in musicology are focused on 19th-century Italian opera. Her M.L.S. degree is from North Carolina Central University, with a focus on academic libraries and international librarianship. She is a certified instructor for the Southeast Chapter of the Music Library Association, and has taught pre-conference workshops for SEMLA on Music Collection Development and Acquisitions. She is also a member of the MLA Education Committee. Prior to joining the staff of the Duke Music Library in 2010, Laura's work was mainly focused on technical services, first as a cataloger at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Rare Book Collection and the Music Library, and then as a manager in the Acquisitions Department at Duke University for 12 years.
